Purple Mountains, Majesty

As the sun set on the city this evening, it was hard not to feel like the sun was setting on a whole lot of things I hold important to myself. Ever since November, I’ve been taking a cautiously nervous approach to whatever our collective future may hold. It has been a period of trying to lay low and keep my sanity…all while waiting for the proverbial other shoe to drop. Well, the other shoe dropped at noon Eastern time today. Hang onto your butts, folks…it’s about to get a little wild here in America.

A purple-hued photo of the Wasatch Mountains after the sunset. City lights have come on, and are illuminated throughout the Botton part of the image. Mountains are snow-covered, and are slightly lit towards the top from the last glow of the set sun.

I’m not sure what comes next for us, as a people,, a democracy, or as a nation. I’m not super hopeful. But…I’m also not completely resigned to defeat either. I’ll continue to be me; I’ll continue creating photos, raising my son, helping others however I can, and contributing to my community. We’re stronger together. I’ll continue to stand for what I believe to be makes this country great (and which feels absolutely under threat of attack right now): our diversity, our teachers, strong and empowered women, our social safety nets, healthcare for all, being stewards of our natural world, and supporting our LGBTQIA+ friends, loved ones, and neighbors. We’re not giving up.
